SDG&E – EVs – Solar

TL;DR: TOU customer at SDG&E with EVs and solar panels – when should I charge?

I am a customer with a TOU (DR-SES) plan with SDG&E (San Diego – home of the highest electricity prices in USA) and solar panels. Over the 12month net-metering true-up period, my PV generation and consumption net out to about zero.

My PV generates much more kW than we consume during SDGE’s daytime window (6am-4pm). The lowest kWh rates are during the night time window; 12am-6am.

Question: Should I charge my EVs during the daytime hours when I have ample excess generation or during nighttime hours when the rates are the lowest?

I’m sure there is a simple answer to this, but I can’t seem to wrap my brain around it – thx.
