Best practices for first time buyer?

Hi all,

My wife and I are looking at buying a new 2021 Tesla model Y (with the long range battery, no FSD). We live in CO, have an 18mo old and another baby due this May. As potential first time Tesla buyers, what are some pros & cons others have experienced making the transition? Also, what are some things to consider when moving forward with a Tesla that you may not experience going with a standard vehicle? A couple of questions/concerns we would love some insight on are:

  1. Battery experience/durability in cold weather & mountain trips (uphill mountains/elevation change)–we’re just curious as to overall performance and durability when driving in these conditions. Does it greatly impact battery life and performance?
  2. Repairs & part replacements; this is probably our biggest concern. We’ve heard some stories about terrible experiences when having to get physical parts replaced. For example, my wife’s friend who is an insurance adjuster said she has seen plenty of situations where replacing Tesla parts has taken months since there’s limited supply and those pieces are constantly being used for manufacturing new vehicles. She said something to consider from a cost perspective is that this results in customers having to use a rental car for months, in which rental car coverage expires after a certain period, putting the financial responsibility on the customer to find another method of transportation. Not sure if this is an extremely rare case or common occurrence, but my wife and I also have a Volvo XC90 that should alleviate some of those concerns.

Appreciate all the responses!
